RACHI "THE PRINCE OF COMMENTATORS"
Salomon, the son of Rabbi Isaac, is better known by the name of Rachi
(as well as Raschi, Rasci, Jarchi...). He was born in 1040 and died
in Troyes in June or July of 1105.
He was educated in the famous jewish academies of the Middle Ages (Worms,
Mayence) and made several journeys abroad (to Italy, Greece, Asia Minor,Persia,
Tartary...).
After returning to Troyes at the age of 25, he became famous
in the Champagne region for his interpretation of the Scripture and the
Talmud |

The learned writings of Rachi, "the Prince of Commentators", and his
solid reputation among the Jewish community, greatly contributed to
the cultural rebirth which took place in the Champagne in the 11th century,
and which spread all over of Europe.
Rachi is still remembered for his importance to both the city of Troyes and the Jewish faith... |
